Under the supervision of a specified Social Care Manager, the post-holder will ensure that needs of children, young people and their families are identified, safeguarded and monitored in accordance with the requirements of the Children Act, statutory guidance and local service policy, procedures and other relevant requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is not a comprehensive list of all the tasks, which may be required of the post holder. It is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the work to be undertaken.

  1. Promote the welfare and safeguarding of children, young people and
    their families in Knowsley.
  2. To assist and deputise in the absence of the Team Manager in the
    completion of work ensuring there is effective delivery of services.
  3. To support the making of key decisions in respect of children in
    accordance with legislation, statutory guidance and local policies, in
    particular the Children’s Act, Working Together and Knowsley’s
    Threshold of Need guidance.
  4. Ensure assessments and planning for children and young people
    actively promote the participation and engagement of all relevant
    agencies, the child/young person and their family.
  5. To maintain case records to a high standard and produce reports in
    accordance with the Service guidance/policy and procedure which
    reflect national guidelines using the relevant information technology.
  6. To ensure that the diverse needs of children, young people and their
    families are identified, met and regularly reviewed and plans updated to
    reflect any subsequent changes.
  7. To participate in developmental activities as may be required, and to
    promote improvement of service or the use of resources.
  8. To deputise or assist the Team Manager in the chairing of operational
    case management meetings
  9. To support the Team Manager in the allocation of work within the team
    to ensure that it is allocated in accordance with Service procedures.

To undertake specific responsibilities for key service areas as agreed
with the Team Manager.

11.To support the Team Manager to monitor performance and standards.

12.To represent the team or Service at internal or multi-agency forums,
including operational meetings.

13.Where appropriate to provide supervision to social workers in the team,
following Knowsley procedures and timescales.

14.To form part and contribute to the work of the Children’s Social Care
management team.

15.To support the service Quality Assurance programme by completing
audits and providing feedback and challenge to individuals to support
service and individual improvement.

16.To contribute to the development and review of Policy and Procedures
in relation to legislation, statutory guidance and good practice
standards.

17.Ensure the statutory duties of the Council are fulfilled and met in
accordance with legal requirements and Service responsibilities in
relation to statutory reviews or instruments in accordance with the
particular responsibilities of the post taking into consideration the
Council’s duty to promote and safeguard a child’s welfare.

18.To pursue appropriate personal and professional training and
development opportunities as and when they occur to ensure
compliance with Social Work England and Directorate
standards/expectations.

19.To comply with all the Council’s Standing orders and Financial
regulations.

20.To meet the requirements identified in Knowsley’s progression policy.

21.To complete reflective supervisions for ASYE and facilitate team
learning.

22.To have the ability to develop services and take a lead on specific
service developments.

23.Any other duties (commensurate with the grade) which will assist the
Service in meeting its objectives.

  • DIPSW or equivalent qualification in Social Work
  • Social Work England registration
  • Enhanced and in date DBS certificate.
  • Excellent communication skills and be able to make good decisions based on information available.

  • Competent IT skills and be able to navigate electronic file/recording systems.
  • Can write clear, concise, and robust assessment/reports/files.
