Housing Service Manager

Service: Supported Accommodation – Young People aged 16 – 25years

Location: Tyne and Wear

Salary/Rate: £34,380

Working hours: 37.5 per week – Hours can be flexible dependent on the needs of the service – Usual hours Monday – Friday

On Call: As it is a short term contact there will not be an expectation to assist with on call duties

Start Date: 24.11.25

Contract Duration: 3 months

 

Ashberry are recruiting for one of our existing Housing Charities who provide accommodation for young adults in Tyne and Wear.

The Housing Service Manager will manage a supported accommodation building, housing 14 young people, be responsible for the health and safety or the building and all housing management tasks with support from the internal teams.

The Aim of the service is to support clients to be confident in their journey towards independence and move on to independent living. Including:

  • Managing Finances including access to benefits and debt advice
  • Access a range of services and community facilities to meet their needs ( health care, mental health support, befriending and social activities.
  • Build on their individual strengths and assets to achieve the outcomes important to them to move into independence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the service meets its contractual requirements
  • Maintain staffing levels to deliver the service
  • Ensure staff undertake all activities and monitor performance
  • Work with the Area Director to manage the team and deliver the service.
  • To be available to deal with clients who need help or advice, either by phone or on a drop-in basis.
  • To monitor all support being provided to the clients, and provide direction where appropriate.
  • To be available to represent the Service at meetings; partnership and strategic meetings to establish and build links with local authority teams in order to ensure sufficient appropriate referrals
  • Work closely with commissioners, other statutory and voluntary partners to develop the service and offer to clients further.
  • To represent your services internally with different departments.
  • To keep clear and relevant records and statistics, and to ensure good communication with the project workers and project evaluators.
  • Chair team meetings, case management meetings and contribute to any policy reviews and consultations.
  • To work in a manner that promotes positive team work.

Person Specification:

 

  • A commitment to the ethos and values of the organisation including the organisation’s policies and procedures
  • Able to work on own initiative providing leadership to the team but at same time able to exercise sound judgement in knowing when to consult with line management
  • A clear understanding and ability to implement risk management, information sharing and data security arrangements.
  • Awareness of and commitment to equal opportunity and diversity practise. Ability to promote and implement diversity practice and policies and treat colleagues and clients fairly and with respect.
  • Demonstrate ability to use IT to a level which will enable high quality reporting to be carried out. This should include an ability to use data capture systems including running queries and reports.
  • Experience of helping people who have experience or are at risk of homelessness with setting up benefits and maintaining their accommodation
  • Experience of working with people who are categorized as high risk or high needs or have complex needs such as mental health issues, drug and alcohol misuse, domestic violence and offending behaviour (this list is not exhaustive)
  • Knowledge of supported accommodation and other services vital to successful support while people are homeless or need pre-tenancy support.
  • Experience of health and safety and housing management responsibilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system and benefits system.
  • Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding requirements and professional boundaries when working with vulnerable adults.
  • Experience of contributing to high level strategic discussions with an ability to deliver the outcomes required to promote the service
  • Can meet travel requirement of job and attend evening meetings, conferences or other appointments as appropriate to the needs of the job

This is an exciting role, requiring a good mix of skills and experience, candidates wishing to apply for the role of Service Manager should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Previous experience of managing a supported housing service
  • Experience of working with vulnerable adults and young people with complex needs
  • Enhanced DBS issued within the last 12 months.
  • Drives and has full access to own vehicle
