School Development Manager

Burnley, Lancashire, UK Permanent, Part Time £30000 - £34000 per annum

Reports to:  The Founder / Executive Headteacher and Non-Exec Board of Directors

Direct Reports: Lead Headteacher, Headteachers, Central Support Team

Ashberry Recruitment are looking for a School Development Manager for our well-respected North-West client. Our client offers a holistic and flexible school experience that has been designed to respond to the needs of young people who are unable to remain in mainstream education.

Our client’s education programmes can each cater for up to 25 pupils per school each academic year who require a smaller, nurturing and individual approach to their education including young people who are excluded, at risk of exclusion, previously home educated, looked after children, Special Needs, High Risk Assessments, YOT Orders, Drugs & Alcohol misuse, school phobic, victims of bullying and more.

They have just secured investment to develop their already proven model and are now seeking the right leaders to help make this happen across their centres in Barnoldswick, Accrington and Blackpool. 

Primary Objectives

  • Oversee the running of 4 schools and a central support team in line with DfE and ISI regulations to a good-exceptional ISI and Ofsted standard
  • Lead on ALL school inspections and quality visits
  • Lead on school safeguarding in all areas and produce a safeguarding strategy document, ensuring safeguarding leads from each campus and board are a part of this
  • Coach and support Lead Headteacher, Assistant Heads, Headteachers, and all SLT
  • Continuously monitor and review each individual school against both Strategic and School Improvement plans. Set targets through a rigorous self evaluation and continuous audit process
  • Take responsibility for the school SCCR, Admissions Registers, Attendance and results
  • Support the recruitment of 3 effective and supportive local Advisory Boards, attending 2 out of the 3 meetings at each campus
  • Effectively manage the overall school SLA`s with 3rd party providers
  • Oversee the school financial system, SLA’s, Invoicing, Forecasts and Budgets
  • Oversee and monitor SEN provision and ECHPs, to include a yearly review meeting with board members
  • To facilitate new business, through face to face meetings, analyse the school customer base and meet with customers who we are not working with anymore
  • Produce an end of term, whole school report
  • To keep abreast of National and Local changes and need within education
  • To attend ISA meetings, events and organise ISI Pre inspections
  • To oversee and review Policies and Procedures, twice yearly along with key board members

Qualifications, Experience and Competencies

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths & English compulsory
  • Advanced Qualifications at Level 3 and above plus a recognised Degree at 2:2 or above
  • Teaching qualification
  • Leadership / Headship qualification or equivalent
  • ICT Qualification / Literate in Microsoft Products & Google documents
  • Financial Management qualification / experience
  • Willingness to progress to Masters level qualifications and substantial internal & external CPD
  • Willingness to study for NPQH, Future Leaders, Executive Headship Qualification

Experience

  • 5 years proven school experience, working with `hard to reach` pupils
  • 3 Years experience at a senior level
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Word, MS Excel, cloud products
  • Competent at managing and producing an effective team
  • Experience of leading a whole school
  • Inspection experience and responsibility at an SLT, Headship Level
  • Experience of creating and managing budgets

Our client takes the safeguarding of young people very seriously.  All potential employees and volunteers MUST agree to an enhanced DBS check, 2 reference checks and complete the application process as set out in our Safer Recruitment Policy.  Once employed your role will involve you following ALL policies, keeping abreast of safeguarding policies / procedures always and attending compulsory Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment trainings.  This role involves working with Vulnerable young people and TAS will continue to monitor staff/volunteer behaviour and actions as part of our Safer School Culture.
